McAfee's Mansion, Estate of the Day
Today's estate belongs to antivirus software developer John McAfee. McAfee is selling his 280-acre Colorado estate at auction on May 10. The land includes his 10,000-square-foot mansion perched on a hillside. The home has a flagstone entry with split staircase, five master suites, a living room, great room and den, media room, library and fitness center. The master suite has a private entry, kitchen, fireplace and access to a glass balcony which leads to a wooden gazebo. The compound has three guest homes, two guest apartments and nine guest cabins for a total of 19 bedrooms. The property includes four trout lakes, observation decks, picnic areas, a horse paddock and more. According to an article in Businessweek, McAfee is looking to get around $20 million. This is the fourth home he has sold through National Auction in three years. After the jump, beauty and simplicity combine to create the perfect bath tub.

Magnificent! However, McAfee's software is terrible. It comes bundled with many new computers and whenever I or anyone else I know has encountered it, we've needed to remove it. It's very unintuitive and user unfriendly. There are better software out there.

I forgot to add:
I noticed that one of the rooms seems to have been inspired by FL Wright in its use of deeply carved geometric "terracotta" tiles lining the columns and walls. Very similar to Wright's house in L.A. In fact the house from the outside is like a Wright Paririe style house on steroids. Not bad for a house perched on a cliff.

This is probably the best large estate I've seen so far on Luxist. Everything looks to be thoughtfully designed, especially the tub and it's view.

Nice little bungalow. He ought to be able to afford this place because his software is shit. McAffee anti-virus plugs up a computer better than cheese in an 80 year old granny. On top of that, it doesn't keep viruses out unless you opt for the service maintenance agreement for another $39. Hope his mansion falls into one of the trout lakes.

#2, the reference to FLlW is correct. But it isn't terracotta tiles, but 'textile blocks', re e.g. the Ennis-Brown house on the LA hills. And, Prarie-style exterior ... that's pushing it a bit...

Now this is what I'm talking about ! save the software talk for the geek chat rooms you dorks.
Now let's get down to brass tacks. Why is this for sale? Because it is a sight to behold and falling in Love with this place is like falling in Love again.
Location is great and you can have the world at your finger tips. The ponds cannot be touched compared to a pool as they are much better to swim in and children Love them more. (NOT to mention you can throw some fish in there, and they can breed, and you can feed them, and you can look like Dr. Grawbow in a few years and take the kids (or Dad/Grandpa)out fishing. (and it looks like you can throw a line off the porch).
This place needs for nothing and the layout from the inside is a crusher.

This IS the house.
don't bust on his software when this is the hardware. [I can't stand geeks with leaks.. but that is another story].
Toss a line off the back porch and your catching fish or watching the kids swim in the pond. Why is this house for sale? Because the view never changes and you better live nearby your work, or want to keep the folks off to the farm. This is a case of too much money and too little time to spend there. He will be selling his boat in a few years too... just don't let the name grab you.. but this place is a really good deal for someone with the right lifestyle. How could you walk away from the inside which had to have had a woman's touch who knew what she was doing.

you will find no better in that location or in value no matter to keep or sell.
